COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
Last updated: October 2026
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
— John 13:34–35 (KJV)
1. WHY WE HAVE GUIDELINES
ScriptureMate exists to help you connect with God through Scripture, prayer, and community. We want every person who joins us — whether you've walked with Christ for decades or are just starting to explore faith — to feel safe, welcomed, and heard.
These guidelines describe how we expect members to treat one another, what we don't allow, how to report someone who's crossed the line, and what happens when rules are broken. They apply everywhere you interact with other members: discussions, testimonials, prayer submissions, and any future community features.
2. WHAT WE EXPECT FROM MEMBERS
- Be Christ-like. Treat every member the way you'd want to be treated. Be charitable in how you read other people's words, and generous in how you write your own.
- Be honest. Share your real experience, your real questions, your real struggles. Don't impersonate others or post content you didn't create without attribution.
- Stay on mission. ScriptureMate is a Christian faith app. Disagreement is welcome — disrespecting the Christian mission of this community is not.
- Protect privacy. Don't share other people's personal information (real names, addresses, phone numbers, workplace, etc.) without their permission. When sharing a prayer request about someone else, use first names or pseudonyms.
- Disagree well. Reasonable Christians disagree on many things. Bring Scripture, bring charity, and don't assume bad motives in people who see things differently.
3. WHAT'S NOT ALLOWED
Zero tolerance: We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Objectionable content is removed, and users who post it or abuse others are suspended or banned.
Content that falls into any of these categories will be removed, and users who post it are suspended or permanently banned.
- Harassment, bullying, or threats toward any member or group — including name-calling, pile-ons, targeted unwanted contact, or doxxing.
- Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- Sexual, violent, or graphic content. ScriptureMate is intended for a general audience including teens and families.
- Profanity, vulgar language, or slurs — including creative spellings used to evade filters (e.g. “sh!t”, “f u c k”).
- Spam, self-promotion, or commercial solicitation. Don't post to sell products, promote unrelated services, or drive traffic elsewhere. Link sharing to Christian resources is fine when relevant.
- Misinformation or scams. Don't spread deliberately false information, health misinformation, phishing attempts, or financial scams.
- Illegal activity. Content promoting or facilitating illegal activity will be removed and may be reported to authorities.
- Child safety violations. Any content that sexualizes minors or puts children at risk is reported immediately to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement.
4. HOW TO REPORT
If you see content that violates these guidelines, or if another member is making you feel unsafe, please let us know. We review every report and act on confirmed violations.
In the app, tap Report (the flag icon) on any Prayer Wall post, discussion thread, or discussion reply, choose a reason, and add any details. When you report a post, you can also block its author, which hides that person's posts in that area (the Prayer Wall or Discussions) from you.
By email, write to us at support@scripturemate.com with a link to the content and a brief description of the issue, and we'll respond within 48 hours.
For emergencies (threats of self-harm, threats of violence, child safety), please also contact your local emergency services. Our Crisis Resources page at /crisis has national hotlines that can respond immediately.
5. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN RULES ARE BROKEN
How we respond depends on the violation:
- Minor issues: For minor issues that are not in a Section 3 category, such as an off-topic post, content is removed and we notify you with an explanation. Repeated minor issues can lead to a temporary account suspension (typically 7–30 days).
- Prohibited content (Section 3): Content is removed, and the user who posted it is suspended (typically 7–30 days) or permanently banned.
- Serious offenses: Permanent account ban, with loss of access to any paid features. Egregious cases (child safety, credible threats, illegal content) result in an immediate permanent ban and law enforcement referral when warranted.
Moderation decisions are final but you may appeal a ban by emailing support@scripturemate.com. We respond within 7 business days.
